![]() THE YEAR OF THE UNDERDOGS?
After Leicester city’s unbelievable season, one wonders what’s going to happen this summer as France hosts the Euro Championships. With the tournament just a few weeks away, millions of football lovers will be tuning in for the action. Two-time reigning European Champions Spain, the 2014 World cup winners Germany, and hosts France are all favorites to win the trophy come July. Could the Foxes’ EPL victory usher in a year of the underdogs? Are we up for another shock? In 1992, a week before the Euro Championship, UEFA informed Denmark that it would have to participate in the then eight nation contest - after Yugoslavia was disqualified as a result of the war in the country. The Danes quickly assembled a team, and against all odds, they won the Championship. Greece in 2004 got the better of host nation Portugal to surprise the whole world and win the Championship that year. One particular nation which looks set to upset the big guns this year is Wales. The Dragons, emerged second in their group and automatically qualified. With the likes of Gareth Bale, most folks like me will be tipping Wales to be the main surprise in France.
